Show Us your heart

a self portrait

So you think that you’re old and over

That the best of your years are gone

You’re exhausted and wrinkled your body is sprinkled with liver spots and muscle knots

You’re sure there are no more surprises

Not one melody you haven’t heard

But then all of a sudden

A new song is flooding your world!

Show us your heart

Sing us your song

Dance us your dance

Take us along

We’re in it too

We’re in it with you

Show us your heart

So you think that it’s too late to make a change

And you’re certain there’s no way you can thrive

You’re feeling too old to grab onto the ring

But damn it — you’re still alive

Dive in with all of your passion

Turn your lemons to smoothies and cake

You might be a bit rusty

Come on kiddo trust me

Get out there and stake your stake!

Show us your heart

Sing us your song

Dance us your dance

Take us along

We’re in it too

We’re in it with you

Show us your heart

We know that you’ve got a story to tell

A tale that’ll make people think

From a lifetime of pain

And a most human stain

You’re a johnny-on-the-brink

You’ve a book, it’s a novel, a song, it’s a poem

It’s a masterpiece you have been hiding

Take it out let us in, let us give it a spin

Let us read for one minute stop writing

It isn’t too late till you’re dead in the ground

You’ll have centuries plenty to rest

Push yourself a bit harder

Your fear’s a non-starter

It’s time that you finally address

Your purpose in life is to give and to give and to give what God’s put in your hands

And if you hold on — you’ll have no way to open the door!

Show us your heart

Sing us your song

Dance us your dance

Take us along

We’re in it too

We’re in it with you

Show us your heart…

Before God and the Guru

Eveylyn’s Song

Before God and the Guru, I knew not

To bless each minute, I have got

This holy moment I am here

I – hold – dear

The hand that God had given me

Always seemed to stymie

I needed to learn faith and love

To untie the knots that tie me

I wanted so to change the world

The wrongs that needed righting

But I was young and not so smart

And far too weak for fighting

The world was dark and the world was cold

And I was very scared

Something broke inside of me

I needed to repair

So, before I ventured out

Away from kith and kin

I battled loss and suffered love

And holy war within

Before God and the Guru, I knew not

To bless each minute, I have got

This holy moment I am here

I – hold – dear

Then one day – this man –  I met

Put his hand upon my head

I cannot say exactly why

But as he touched my head I cried

I'd been living in the past

And as I meditated

The clutter fluttered from my life

I was emancipated

My nasty past poured outta me

It cleared my sickly soul

My tears turned into waterfalls

I swear they made me whole

The light I looked for all my life

Exploded from my eyes

Could it be that finally

The truth had made me wise?

Before God and the Guru, I knew not …

Up a river down a hill

I have got my marbles still

Fortune that I once thought poor

Lead me to straight to heaven’s door

Friends and family I love

I thank the lord – my God above

Below, beside, inside and out

I need my faith without a doubt

I’ve come to love the ones that hurt me

Them that swore they’d not desert me

I’ve forgiven folks I hated

Spat upon and denigrated

I know the world’s inside of me

If I cannot forgive I’ll see

The world as ugly, strange and cruel

And I will be the devil’s fool

So, I share what I now know

The world we have’s the world we sow

Things will go from bad to worse

Believing in the devil’s curse

One thing a-bove all I know

Laughter heals the suffering soul

Seeing life through laughter’s eye

Heals the heart

Before God and the Guru, I knew not

To bless each minute, I have got

This holy moment I am here

I – hold – dear

Try not to hold on to your past

Life goes by so very fast

This moment here could be your last

Let it go

Enjoy the show (whispered)

This holy moment I am here…
